Butch Carver
is a thriller and horror writer who spent a majority of his life in the Alaskan
Bush before returning to the Continental US. Rather than write about his
experiences in the Great Outdoors, Butch prefers to tap into the nightmares
that have often plagued him throughout his life. Not quite an insomniac, Butch drinks
copious amounts of coffee to keep himself awake during the long nights when his
nightmares seem most real. These “black dreams” are what have allowed Butch to
write terrifying stories like Semblance, which will be released in July
2025.
From Semblance:
“Darkness doesn’t live within men’s hearts, but in their minds… Renowned
psychiatrist Dr. Dennis Allen Welbing has a secret: he can see into the minds
of his schizophrenic patients. By astrally projecting into their heads, Dr.
Welbing can look through their memories to find the root of their trauma and
remove their hallucinations. At least, he could. After his last patient
died mid-projection, Dennis lost his abilities. And since then, his sense of
reality has fractured. Plagued by the monsters of his nightmares, Dr. Welbing
now has to find an exit—but the way out might be a doorway deeper in.”
Butch learned
his craft from an early age, keeping journals of his experiences during his
childhood in Wyoming and adulthood in Alaska. Books, of course, have also
helped him to develop his own style. Butch’s inspirations for writing include
Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and H. P. Lovecraft, though he has always considered
his inspiration for life to be Ernest Hemingway.
